Student Organizations Boys & Girls Athletics

Many student organizations have been established to serve the needs and interests of West Mesa's students. All students are encouraged to participate in the activities and athletic programs at West Mesa, either as an active member or as a spectator and supporter. The major goal of the activities and athletic programs at West Mesa is to provide students with the opportunity to develop their potential to maximum by enhancing their physical, mental, personal and social skills. Participants gain a respect for self and others and learn to value diligence, achievement and excellence. These extracurricular and co-curricular activities are integral part of the total educational program. Contact the Activities Office or the Athletic Office for more information.
All students should be aware of the Board of Education policy concerning "hazing" as it pertains to initiation into an organization. "Hazing" will not be permitted as a condition of membership in any group or organization connected with the Albuquerque Public Schools. Hazing is defined as follows:

  1. To harass by exacting unnecessary, disagreeable or degrading tasks or activities which may result in harm or bodily injury to an individual.
  2. To play abusive and humiliating tricks on an individual by way of initiation.

Eligibility
According to New Mexico Activities Association eligibility guidelines, all students involved in extracurricular activities must be enrolled in and passing at least 4 classes each quarter with a minimum grade point average of 2.0 and not more than 1 "F".
Exception: Honor Society and M.E.S.A. do not fall under the New Mexico Activities Association guidelines mends for their organizations.

Fundraising
Groups wishing to sponsor activities must request approval from the Activities Director. Advance planning is encouraged and will help facilitate getting a request honored. All fund-raising activities must have prior approval by the Activities Director and/or administration. This helps coordinate sales and avoid unnecessary conflicts or problems. The policy applies to off-campus as well as on-campus activities.

Posters/Facility Usage
Posters, advertisements and facility use must be approved by the Activities Director and/or administration in charge of buildings and grounds. Please remember that postings of any type must be approved by the Activities Director prior to posting. Failure to do so may result in materials taken down permission not granted to post. Also, no posting in hallways (Fire Codes), or any painted surface. Please discard all postings after use. If you are using a facility please make certain that you and your group leave it clean for the next group. Please report unclean facilities prior to use.

Assemblies
A variety of assemblies are planned for the year. Everyone is needed to develop a strong sense of Mustang Pride and unity. Participation in assemblies, activities, and athletic contests plays a vital role in this process. Assemblies attendance is mandatory unless otherwise indicated.
